Oregon Potato Farmers Helping End Hunger

Oregon Potato Commissioners donate about a million pounds of potatoes a year to help fill the gap to end hunger. Our farmers have longstanding relationships within their communities and are passionate about ending hunger. Most of these farmers have made a commitment to grow extra acres of potatoes specifically for donation.

Potatoes are an ideal food for donation to the Oregon Food Bank because they are hearty, long-lasting, and don’t need refrigeration. With proper storage, they can last for weeks. Potatoes also have nearly all the nutrients needed for life sustaining nutrition. Potatoes can be incorporated into every meal, and provide healthy nutrition for those in need.

About Oregon Potato Commission

The Oregon Potato Commission is one of 23 agricultural commodity commissions in Oregon and was formed in 1949 to represent the potato industry in educational, trade development, research, legislative affairs, and public relations activities.

Growers from five potato producing districts in Oregon (Blue Mountain, Central Oregon, Klamath, Malheur and Willamette Valley) are appointed to serve as commissioners.
