The potato is the first official state vegetable and is now commemorated as such with a granite plaque at the Oregon State Capital mall.  There was an unveiling ceremony on Monday 9/23.  Those present included Senator Hansell, Senator Steiner, Senator Lieber, Senate President Rob Wagner, Representative Boise, Senate Candidate and Commissioner Todd Nash, staffers, representatives from the Oregon Department of Agriculture, Oregon Potato Commission staff and Commissioners, and many others. Potato processor Lamb Weston brought their French fry trailer and made delicious French fries for all to enjoy!  We appreciate everyone that had a hand in making the potato Oregon’s State Vegetable and everyone that enjoys potatoes as a part of their healthy diet. Thank you all!!

About Oregon Potato Commission

The Oregon Potato Commission is one of 23 agricultural commodity commissions in Oregon and was formed in 1949 to represent the potato industry in educational, trade development, research, legislative affairs, and public relations activities.

Growers from five potato producing districts in Oregon (Blue Mountain, Central Oregon, Klamath, Malheur and Willamette Valley) are appointed to serve as commissioners.
