Awesome research is happening in the Potato World!

This week’s shout out goes to the Potato Team at OSU’s Hermiston Agricultural Research and Extension Center (HAREC). The team helps put on the Hermiston Farm Fair held November 29-30 this year. Some of the agricultural industry’s latest equipment was on display and there were great vendors to talk with regarding irrigation and other farm practices.

But what was so impressive was the full 8am-5pm slate of potato research topics. Most sessions had a standing room only crowd of 75-100 potato-growing enthusiasts (the picture below doesn’t do it justice!). They came from across Oregon and the tri-state region. What does that tell us?!? It tells us the research is worthwhile and well worth the time to travel and listen for a day.

Also, nice assist play bringing in their colleagues from WSU, USDA and Colorado State University. It was a particularly nice touch at the end of each of the applicable presentations where the growers’ financial support was acknowledged and appreciated, including OPC, Northwest Potato Research Consortium (NWPRC), WSU, etc.!
